About the author

Dr. Sreya Mariyam Salim currently works as a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry with Powys Teaching Health Board, Wales. She completed her MD in Psychiatry at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, after earning her MBBS from Government Medical College, Kozhikode.

In 2013, she secured first rank in the national-level Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) entrance exam. Sreya also led impactful initiatives like Haiku, a campaign to raise awareness about menstruation, and Aham, a student-led campaign advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.

Sreya served as the editor of Thudal (Calicut Medical College Magazine, 2016), which won second prize in a state-level competition organized by Malayala Manorama and was the first runner-up in the Basheer Award for Best College Magazine.

Sreya’s academic achievements include receiving the Palakkad Guild PG Paper Award and the Dr. DS Raju Memorial Award for Best Research Paper by a post-graduate student in Kerala and South India. She was selected as one of 16 participants from SAARC countries for the Tenth Leadership and Professional Skills Course for Early Career Psychiatrists, organized by the Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes, Geneva, and the Dr. Ramachandra N Moorthy Foundation for Mental Health and Neurological Sciences. During this program, she was honored with the Fellowship of Dr. Ramachandra N Moorthy Foundation and was awarded second prize for her oral presentation. She also received the Dr. Vinoth Memorial Award for Best Participant and the Dr. MV Asok Memorial Award for Best Team Performance in the Brief Course in Psychiatric Research Season 4, organized by the Indian Psychiatric Society South Zone branch in 2024.
